Petland’s Pet for a Lifetime Program Makes Family Complete, Again

Shortly after taking home their Golden Retriever, Cooper, Jesse and Alex Odle made a big move to South Carolina where Alex Odle was stationed as a member of the U.S. Marine Corps. With just six weeks with Cooper, the Odle’s 1970s model mobile home caught fire.

Desperate to find the pup, each of the Odles tried to heroically rescue Cooper – but neither was successful. They made it out of the fire with various injuries. Though Cooper did not. Grateful to be alive, the couple recovered from their injuries and mourned the loss of their home and puppy. The cause of the fire was determined to be electrical, and the trailer had no working smoke detectors inside.

More than a year later, Alex retired from the Marines on a medical discharge and the couple moved home to Indiana. One day, Jesse was talking to a friend about their new pet, and later, with Alex decided to stop at a Petland in Carmel (IN). “We decided to stop at the local Petland to pick up some toys and treats for my friend’s dog,” said Jesse. While there, the Odles also looked at puppies. “We saw Lily and didn’t know if we’d even like her, but she was perfect,” she added.

Speaking with Pet Counselor Samantha, the couple mentioned how they had lost their puppy Cooper a year and a half earlier, and Samantha mentioned the Puppy for a Lifetime program, which could be a possibility to replace Cooper. Because their paperwork for Cooper was lost in the fire, Petland’s Customer Solutions team worked to make the confirmation, and Lily was theirs!

Petland’s Puppy for a Lifetime program provides store credit for the purchase of another puppy at the time of a puppy’s passing if the pet owner purchases Heartland Natural Dog Food and a supplement once every 90 days throughout the dog’s life. Having purchased Cooper and the necessary products, and losing him just six weeks later, the Odles qualified for the credit.

In addition, Petland Charities donated one-year of routine veterinary care and dog food for Lily.
