We often see the value of puppy therapy for young children and the elderly, but Petland Tulsa (OK) shows us that college students are another group who can use some hugs and snuggles from a pet visit. As part of Oral Roberts University’s Mental Health Awareness Week, Petland Tulsa GM Clay Bunch met with university officials to put together an event that had an incredibly positive impact on the students.
With midterms and now the end of the semester near, students can become overwhelmed by assignments and tight deadlines. For many, the recent visit was a much-needed break from the demands of their academic lives. The sight of the playful, happy puppies instantly brought smiles to their faces, and provided enough distraction to allow the students to momentarily escape their stress and worries.
“Not only did the visit bring joy and happiness, it also provided a therapeutic and comforting experience for the students and faculty,” said Bunch. “They bonded over their shared love for pets, exchanging stories, laughter, and even some friendly competition to see who could make the puppies wag their tails the fastest. It was a beautiful reminder of the power animals have in bringing people together and creating lasting memories.”
Petland Tulsa has developed an ongoing relationship with the university in providing student experiences and has also participated in “Life Week.” These are experiences that these students will remember for a lifetime, supported by Petland.
